CITY OF FRESNO ORGANIZATIONS PHOTOGRAPHS

The Fresno County Historical Society has been collecting photographs that document the rich history of the central San Joaquin Valley since our founding in 1919. The Photograph Collection includes series which focus on the City of Fresno, Fresno County, General Subjects, Oversized photographs, and the Portrait Collection. Since 2015, the archives staff and volunteers have digitized hundreds of photographs for digital preservation and improved access to these archival materials.

The Merry Wives Club with their husbands and children, circa 1895. Fresno County Historical Society Archives, Fresno, California.

These wonderful City of Fresno Organizations photographs show social clubs and organizations of Fresno in the early 20th century. From the Masonic lodges to women’s clubs like the Merry Wives and the Query Club, these images reveal the varied social interests of our community. Just a glance at the Society pages of the Fresno Morning Republican from the 1920s and 1930s will give you an idea of the activities of Fresno's voluntary associations, youth groups, and musical organizations.

These images are available for academic or personal research use. Higher resolution scans can be ordered for use in books, magazines, film, postcards, advertising, television, web page, brochures, reports, and calendars. Commercial, publication, film, or media use requires permission from the Fresno County Historical Society. Contact the Society Archivist for cost options at archives@valleyhistory.org
